Being hailed (by Volkswagen) as the most efficient four-seat car in the world, the Up! Lite concept debuted earlier this week in LA. The hatchback is the fifth in VW’s series of Up! concepts and features three doors, four seats and a powertrain consisting of  a 0.8-liter, three-cylinder turbodiesel (51 hp); 13 hp, 10 kW electric motor; and seven-speed, dual-clutch DSG transmission. The design includes much carbon fiber and aluminum, keeping the weight down to just 1,532 lbs.

Fuel efficiency has been cited at the equivalent of 96.4 mpg. Performance figures include a 100-mph top speed and a 12-second 0 to 60 time.

Volkswagen stated that the visual and technical design are an indication of what’s to come in the future. We definitely like. [via Carscoop]
