U.S.-Bound Mazda2 Images and Info Released
By Chris WeissThe 2011 Mazda2 is making its way to the U.S. for a late-2010 debut and will be showcased at the upcoming LA Auto Show. In the meantime, Mazda has released some pictures and a little more information about the subcompact.
Based on the Ford Fiesta, the Mazda2 will replace the Mazda3 as the least expensive available offering in Mazda’s line-up. It will get a 1.5-liter four cylinder paired with a five-speed transmission, a combination that’s expected to offer highway efficiency numbers in the high 30′s. Only the five-door hatch will be offered in the States.
The Mazda2 may also get iStop, a feature which shuts off the engine when one stops the car and automatically restarts when the foot is removed from the brake. The feature could add up to 8 percent efficiency for crowded urban driving. [via GreenCarReports and LeftLaneNews]
