Global expansion is usually a positive for a company, but not in the case of Toyota. The Japanese automaker is currently in talks with governments and regulatory agencies around the world about expanding the recall of a number of models that have experienced problems with sticking accelerator pedals, according to The Detroit Bureau. Yesterday, Toyota announced that it would cut off sales of the affected models, following up on a recall affecting 2.3 million Toyotas.

The problem with the vehicles is a sticking gas pedal that can cause unwanted acceleration. The problematic pedal mechanisms are produced by Indiana company CTS Corp. and it’s not currently known whether the mechanisms are used in Toyota vehicles outside of North America.

Toyota hasn’t stated whether or not it will expand the recall to other markets or other vehicles. [via AutoBlog]
