Toyota FT-86 Delayed For Two Years
By Chris Weiss
Since the exit of Toyota sports cars like the Supra and Celica, the world has been ready for something sportier from Toyota. Preferably something that accelerates only when you want it to.
We thought Toyota was going to appease these voices with the FT-86 next year, but it looks like we may have to wait a little longer. According to Best Car, Toyota will delay the launch of the FT-86 until 2013. Toyota is reportedly considering different styling and powertrain options, including a possible hybrid configuration.
Originally designed as a concept in conjunction with Subaru, the FT-86 featured Subaru’s four-cylinder boxer engine driving the rear wheels and a six-speed manual navigating through the gears. Recently, it was reported that Toyota is also planning a smaller, cheaper version of the coupe that will be priced under $20K. Subaru is also developing its own model based on the FT-86.
