Toyota Dealers to Get Up to $75,000 to Mend Fences
By Chris Weiss
Yesterday, during the halftime of the Jazz/Blazers game, a representative from a Toyota dealership came on TV during halftime to make a brief announcement about how his dealership was putting it in overdrive for the recall fix. I only caught it with half an ear, but I couldn’t help but feel sorry for him and all other Toyota dealers as to the amount of work they’d have to endure and the amount of money they’ll lose as a result of the recall.
Toyota also recognizes this issue and plans to send out checks of up to $75,000 to its U.S. dealers to help them “do the right right thing on behalf of Toyota customers”. Some suggestions include free oil changes, mobile repair service and dedicated recall service lanes.
The checks will be based on the number of cars each dealer sells in a year, beginning at $7,500 (fewer than 500 cars). To qualify for the $75,000 the dealer will have to work in the over-4,000 range.
