Veyron Super Sport
Throwing a question mark behind a recent report that Bugatti will eliminate the Veyron in favor of a sedan, Auto Express reported recently that Bugatti is about to start working on a refreshed 2014 Veyron that will be even faster than any Veyron of the past.
According to the site, Volkswagen is committed to the Veyron, even though the model is bleeding money. The next version will get an evolutionary design change that may pull inspiration from a proposal for the original Veyron presented back in 1999. That proposal was created by Walter de’Silva, now head of design at VW Group.

If a new report out of Germany is to be believed, Bugatti may soon be dropping the legendary Veyron from its line and focusing on a more profitable vehicle: an ultra-premium sedan. German site Der Spiegal reports that Bugatti is under some pressure from VW to turn a profit, and VW plans to shift focus from the completely impractical Veyron to a less-impractical but probably-still-outrageous sedan modeled after the 16C Galibier. The sedan will be built on the Audi A8′s platform. Word is the Veyron will be phased out by 2014.

There’s about a week and a half until Christmas. Depending upon the specifics of your job, that might mean a manic year-end rush or it might mean trying to kill some time before your holiday vacation. If you’re in the former category, we can’t help you much, but if you’re in the latter, here’s a new toy: a brand new Bugatti Veyron configurator.

By now, you should know all you need to know about the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport. If not, you can familiarize yourself here. The story here is the studio shots of the suped-up Veyron in the fetching blue carbon fiber suit that it sported in Pebble Beach. It’s quite an upgrade from the original orange and black motif, isn’t it? More after the break… [via Carscoop]

Just a few days too late for our list of horribly modified supercars, this atrocity here is the new Bugatti Veyron Linea Vincero d’Oro from Mansory. What isn’t wrong with this picture? Excessive exterior carbon fiber, check. Faux-gold rims and accents, check. Ostrich-patterned, gold leather interior, check. Interior perimeter LED lighting, check again. Everything about this thing makes you feel a whole lot better about not being rich enough to afford something this awful.
Mansory has built one example of the Linea Vincero d’Oro and is hoping that there are enough tragically misguided individuals in this world to commission a few more. We’re hoping the exact opposite–pretty hard. [via Jalopnik]

The Hennessy Venom GT hasn’t even officially made it out of the shop, and it’s already old news. Bugatti’s new Veyron Super Sport can now boast a record-shattering run that averaged 268 mph. The superest of Bugatti supercars set the Guiness World Record this past Saturday at the Volkswagen Group’s Ehra-Lessien track. The title cited by Bugatti’s press release is “landspeed world record for production cars.” 268 is definitely a lofty feat.

What’s a better way to show that you’re a balla than by throwing a couple mil at 250 mph, 1,000 horses and 16 cylinders worth of Bugatti Veyron? Perhaps throwing that couple mil at something even more exclusive: a 1:18-scale, 24-karat gold model of the Veyron. You’d expect to pay around $2 million for a brand new Veyron, and the limited edition, 3-model Veyron designed by Robert Gulpen of Munich & Stuart Hughes of Liverpool will also set you back 2 million–euros. That’s about $2.93 million American.

And we wonder why we owe all kinds of money to the next world superpower. While our youth are skipping class to smoke in the parking lot, some industrious Chinese students are hiding out in the bushes just waiting for them to callously discard their empty packs into the environment. After collecting 10,000 of those packs, students in China’s Xi’an University put together a Bugatti Veyron-inspired skin for a low-speed electric car. It was done for World No Smoking Day. Fresh off it’s edged-out loss to the Lexus LFA, everyone’s favorite underdog–the Nissan GT-R–is back, and this time it takes on an even more venerable competitor: the once-fastest-in-the-world Bugatti Veyron. It doesn’t look good from the outset for the GT-R: it’s 474-hp twin-turbo V6 has never looked smaller than it does when positioned against the Veyron’s quad-turbocharged near-1,000-hp 16-cylinder. It looks like the GT-R has gotten some significant tuning, so maybe there’s hope for the brave two-door in the all-out highway drag. Probably not, but it’ll be fun to watch either way.
