Back when the 599 GTO came out, Ferrari called it the fastest road-going Ferrari ever. Of course, that designation didn’t take extreme tunes into account. And when you take the fastest Ferrari ever and put it through an extreme tune, you have a beast of a car.
Novitec Rosso used two supercharges, a modified exhaust system, an air-to-water intercooler and custom intake manifolds to achieve 888 horses and 636 lb-ft (up from 671 hp and 457 lb-ft) in its 599 GTO tune. That equipment chops .15 seconds off the 0 to 62 mph, which is brought down to 3.2 seconds, and adds 3 mph up to a 211 mph top speed.

If you’ve ever sent a computer to Best Buy to be repaired, and gotten back a lemon, the man you want to punch is one Russell Cole. Cole spent years rooking Best Buy by submitting fake low bids on computer parts, and then sending them crappy, defective parts at a much higher price.
It made him millions, but, obviously, he got caught and is going straight to jail. But that means he’s got a big garage full of supercars the Feds are auctioning off at cut rate prices.

Can’t say we’re too surprised about this. After many lesser leaks, and Lamborghini’s several-month-long, piece-by-piece Aventador reveal, the first uncovered Aventador picture comes to us by the way of Web leak.
The picture is a scanned magazine pictorial from Evo Magazine Croatia and gives a nice look at the front end and roof of the newest Lamborghini. Unfortunately, there’s only one leaked shot so far, but I wouldn’t be surprised to see a few more leaks–if not an official Lamborghini reveal–within the next day or two.
Until then, we have this brilliant, red front end to stare longingly at. [via WCF]

We first caught wind of the Dagger GT from the U.S.-based TranStar this past summer. And we were blown away (with sheer, utter skepticism). TranStar is promising all kinds of things with this hypercar, so much so that “hypercar” may not even be enough to describe it. We’re talking a 2,000-hp engine on the base version (2,500-hp is another option), a calculated top speed of 314 mph, a sub-1.5-second 0-to-60 mph time and a potential world record lap time around the ‘Ring.

It looks like eco-supercars are going to be taking a prime time spot in the German auto market. Porsche is working on the 918 Spyder Hybrid. BMW recently confirmed the Vision EfficientDynamics for production. And now Mercedes is joining the fray with an eco-friendly supercar of its own.
According to Autocar, Mercedes is developing an eco-supercar with a launch of 2015 in mind. The car will be roughly based on the Biome concept that Mercedes’ design team entered in the Design Challenge at the LA Auto Show, though I suspect things like the turbine-like wheels and organic “biofibre” construction will have to step aside in production. I also suspect it will add some substantial weight over the mandatory 1,000 lbs. of the Design Challenge contestant.

Here’s a showdown we’d love to see: the 678-hp Pagani Zonda Cinque vs. the Lambo Murcielago Police Interceptor. On a windy mountain road in the Italian Alps. That’s some car porn if I’ve ever seen it.
Unfortunately, we don’t have footage of an actual chase, but this clip from Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit shows us what it might look like. And while I don’t usually find video game movies too compelling, this intriguing match-up was well worth the two minutes. Check it out after the break. [via WCF]

The SEMA show begins next week and one of the most interesting cars there will be the Hennessey Venom GT, which the company announced will be make its debut on November 2. If you’ll recall, the Hennessey GT is the Frankenstein of supercars: 1,200-horsepower worth of twin-turbocharged 6.2-liter V8 LS9 power shoved into the middle of a Lotus Evora chassis. Combining the tiny, light chassis with carbon fiber, aluminum and titanium design, Hennessey kept weight down to 2,685 lbs., delivering a staggering 2.24 lbs per hp figure.
Hennessey didn’t release any performance figures with its announcement today, but past figures put the Venom GT at 62 mph in 2.4 seconds and projected a top speed at 262 + mph. Only 10 will be built annually. [via SF Gate]

Believe it or not, this isn’t the first Brazilian supercar we’ve seen recently. That would be this one. But since supercars from unassuming places are a niche we like to cover, the Rossin-Bertin Vorax is our supercar of the day.
The car will become official at the Sao Paulo Auto Show later this month. It features a tuned version of the BMW M5′s 5.0-liter V10 engine sitting inside a carbon fiber body and aluminum chassis. It weighs just 2,866 lbs. It will be offered in several different power levels, topping out at a 750-hp supercharged version that rolls to 62 mph in 3.6 seconds.

It may not be an all out Italian grudge-fest between the 599 GTB and the Murcielago LP640, but it’s a pretty sweet cross-country rivalry just the same. In a test by Road & Track, drivers took the 570-hp 4.5-liter V8-powered 458 Italia and the 562-hp V10-powered Gallardo Superleggera head to head. In case you think that either has a clear advantage, the numbers argue against it. In addition to their similar output figures, the cars have a weight difference of a mere 20 lbs., produce the same 398 lb-ft of torque and both have listed top speeds of 202 mph.
It turns out to be a very intriguing match-up and the only way you’ll find out who wins is by getting to the end of the video at Road & Track. They also have a full write-up for all the details.
