Leaked Pics of New De Tomaso

About a year ago, former Fiat exec Gianmario Rossignolo purchased the rights to the defunct De Tomaso, an Italian sports car maker best known for the Pantera, with aim of reviving the brand. He had three cars planned, a crossover, a sedan and, most importantly, a sports coupe.

Today, a few pictures ripped from the pages of an Italian auto magazine have been scanned and leaked to the Web. Rather disappointingly, the car doesn’t appear to be a Pantera revival (the most logical place to start in our minds), but more likely the sedan. It’s called the SLC. The pictures show various pieces of the car including the hood, front end and back end, but don’t show the car in its entirety–more like a leaked teaser.

When Rossignolo first bought De Tomaso, word was that the first offerings would debut at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show, and it looks like things are on track. [via WCF]

I’m not usually a huge fan of vanity plates. And I’m even less a fan of using the completely done-to-death “LOL” anywhere outside of binary-based communications. But when the two otherwise detestable elements team up to hock a big one right over the brow of oil tycoons, I’m all about it. Here we see the rear end of a bright Tesla Roadster using sarcasm to replace the emissions that you would usually see spewing out the backside. Nicely done.

Chevy Teases Cherry Red 2011 Camaro Convertible on Facebook

In spite of all the things that GM has done wrong over the past few years–and there are many, the return of the Chevy Camaro is one thing the company has really gotten right. And it’s clearly getting close to finally adding a soft-top to the Camaro line.

Facebook is the fashionable darling of the Internet, and Chevy used the social media site to show a few teaser pictures of the Camaro Convertible all dressed up in a beautiful, deep red. The pictures were spotted yesterday on Chevy’s Facebook page. Oggle, fondle and hope for a full announcement, pricing and availability in the near future. Rear shot after the break. [via AutoBlog]

First Pic of the Upcoming Alfa Romeo Hatchback

Though its name hasn’t been made official, the new Alfa Romeo hatchback pictured here will replace the 147 and make its debut at the Geneva Motor Show. The compact, sporty five-door will be based on Fiat’s C-Evo platform, which will eventually infiltrate Dodge and Chrysler vehicles. A variety of turbocharged engine options will be available including two diesels and two petrols ranging between 105 and 170 hp. The hatch will go on sale in Europe next spring and a sportier version featuring a 1.7-liter turbocharged petrol four cylinder good for 235 hp will follow sometime thereafter. [via Carscoop]

Volvo Releases First Images of New S60

We’ve seen some of the details and artistic intepretations of the upcoming Volvo S60 sedan, and today Volvo has released the official pictures. Looking quite similar to what we expected, the S60 is strong, attractive vehicle with distinctive lines. The four-door will make its debut at next March’s Geneva Motor Show and production will begin in the summer of next year.

The powertrain behind the S60 is currently unconfirmed, but past speculation has called for 4- and 6-cylinder varieties in addition to efficient versions. One interesting safety feature that is likely to be a part of the S60 is Volvo’s Pedestrian Detection, which senses pedestrians in front of the car and brakes automatically if the driver isn’t swift to hit the pedal. U.S.-Bound Buick Regal Spotted on Facebook

Facebook is usually the go-to source for seeing how drunk your latest Web friend or fling got on any given weeknight, not the place for hard news. However, the social networking site has been the source of a revealing photo of the Buick Regal, a car which Buick confirmed is headed for the U.S. Speculation is that the U.S. Regal will be based on the Insignia and will be similar to the Regal offered in the Chinese market. The picture, which claims to be a rough, early version of the U.S. Regal, shows some deviations from the Chinese model including slight changes to the foglights and front end. The car will likely feature a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine with other options including a 2.0-liter turbo and V6. We’ll see if the final version holds true to this picture.
