AMG To Offer Less Expensive, Entry Level Model Based on F800 Concept

The sexy F800 concept has yet to officially debut in Geneva, but already we hear that AMG, Mercedes’ high-performance wing, is planning on basing a new, entry-level model around it. The new model is expected to feature a turbocharged direct-injected 2.0-liter four-cylinder worth around 300 horses and 220 lb-ft. The engine will be mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch and four-wheel drive system. Efficient technologies like engine start-stop and brake energy recuperation are also expected to make their way into the coupe.
While it will undoubtedly lose all the conceptual wow-factor of the F800, it will offer a less expensive Mercedes AMG option aimed at younger buyers. Not a bad way to spend some of your first-year salary. [via AutoCar]
