Well, after a few months of taking some of the new Lamborghini’s specs for granted, we now have some confirmation. The official dealer guide leaked to the Internet today and offers a closer look at the upcoming Aventador.
First, the book confirms the performance numbers of the Aventador, including its 2.9 second 0-to-62 time and its 217 mph top speed. It also shows the new Lambo will be available in two new colors: Grigio Estoque (a metallic grey) and Arancio Argos (a pearl affect orange).
The one thing that the book leaves a mystery: the car’s name. It refers only to a LP700-4, not a Jota or an Aventador. [via AutoBlog]

This, my friends, is the Lamborghini Aventador, the replacement for the Murcielago. And it’s the best look that we’ve seen yet.
As has been Lamborghini’s M.O. of late, we see some sharp lines and triangular angles similar to those used on the Reventon and Sesto Elemento concept. On the other end of that prominent air intake behind the door sits Lamborghini’s new 700-hp 6.5-liter V12 engine, which should power the flagship to a 2.9-second 0-to-62 mph time and a 217 + mph top speed.
The Aventador is expected to launch next winter at the Geneva Motor Show. [Facebook via Car and Driver]

Well this is somewhat of a 180. After weeks and months of reports that Lamborghini is building a crossover called the LM00X, CEO Stephan Winkelmann all but called the SUV project dead and resurrected another potential model: a four-door.
Winkelmann told Autocar: “We really have a choice when it comes to an additional model: an SUV or a four-seat four-door. And for me the SUV is a no-go. It doesn’t exist in our price segment, and it’s not a real luxury car.”

You know what’s about a thousand times better than any of the other parades that you may have watched or will watch this holiday season? An all-Lamborghini parade that lets some of the most powerful Lambo flagships out of the cage all at once.
Earlier this month, Lamborghini held a ceremony in honor of the Murcielago’s retirement. And part of that ceremony was a parade in which Lamborghini drove V12 supercars like the 350 GT, Miura, Countach and Diablo down the streets of Sant’Agata Bolognese. And now there’s some video of that grand event. Stop reading; hit continue and enjoy! [via WCF]

Here’s a showdown we’d love to see: the 678-hp Pagani Zonda Cinque vs. the Lambo Murcielago Police Interceptor. On a windy mountain road in the Italian Alps. That’s some car porn if I’ve ever seen it.
Unfortunately, we don’t have footage of an actual chase, but this clip from Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit shows us what it might look like. And while I don’t usually find video game movies too compelling, this intriguing match-up was well worth the two minutes. Check it out after the break. [via WCF]

Rumors last week that Lamborghini is planning a very small-scale production of the Sesto Elemento concept have just gotten a little more concrete. CEO Stephan Winkelmann told Autocar recently that the company is working toward a goal of production.
He said: “We are testing the Sesto Elemento at the moment and if it all goes well then we could look at a limited production run. But it would not be homologated because there are complications with things like airbags. It would be for track use only.”
No matter, Winkelmann said that there will be a max of 20 units built, so you’re not likely to see one on the streets anyway. [via Autocar]

Wow, Lambo’s really gone overboard on naming. We always appreciate their horsepower-2/4 WD format, but there are just too many words in this one. From here on out, we call it ‘Performante.’
Naming issues aside, the all-new hard-core Gallardo Spyder is a scorching machine. Lamborghini ups the ante by 10 horses from the standard Spyder and does a lot of weight cutting with carbon fiber–pretty much the Bull’s new M.O. Carbon fiber pieces include the side sills, rear spoiler, rear diffuser, interior door panels and bucket seat shells. Overall, 143 lbs. go the way of the dodo.

For a while, we’ve been taking the name Jota for granted. But new rumors today indicate that the next top-end Lambo may use an entirely different name: Aventador. Rumors from various forums and European automotive site Autogespot say that Lamborghini quietly introduced the name (and car) at a no cameras event at its headquarters in Sant’ Agata Bolognese. The company also reportedly trademarked the name in the U.S. The Aventador name has been linked to a bull that competed in the Plaza de Toros de Zaragoza, giving it a little extra credibility.

Well that didn’t take long. Lamborghini displayed its Sesto Elemento concept at the Paris Motor Show in September/October. Officially it was meant to be a demonstration of Lamborghini’s new guiding philosophy of lighweight components and reeled in engines.
Today, a French automotive site indicates that Lamborghini has given the go-ahead for a very limited production of seven to 10 models. The exclusive concept turned limited edition is expected to run a price of €2.5 million/$3.44 million.
