We’re not sure if BMW is going to come down on us with an iron hammer, but we’re ignoring the request posed by its new teaser site “dontblogaboutthis.com.” We think they’ll forgive us.
The blog is designed to showcase a new 6 Series coupe prototype that’s rumored to be based on the Vision EfficientDynamics concept of Frankfurt 2009 infamy.

Most drivers could have said that jumping a BMW X5 off a dirt ramp probably isn’t a bright idea. But apparently the guy behind the wheel got the idea he had Travis-Pastrana-like skills. He didn’t.

G-Power announced today what it’s calling the world’s fastest sedan. The German tuner turned the BMW M5 into an 800-hp beast known as the Hurricane RR, and captured a track time of 231.2 mph–in a two-ton sedan! While it doesn’t appear the time was independently verified, that’s still a lot of mph’s for a four-door.

Looking more like a design study of the next Transformers villain than of an actual car, this BMW X9 concept was brought to us by Tunisian design student Khalfi Oussama. Unfortunately, Oussama didn’t offer any information with the car, leaving us to guess at exactly what was going on in his mind when he designed it. From the pictures, it looks like the X9 has been primed for a little off-roading. I can’t say I dislike it, but from the modified kidney grille with what comes off as a moustache to the orange striped tires that look like they’re going to pop claws ala The Animal, it just looks a little cartoonish. Interesting, but certainly over the top. [via Carscoop]

Fire hazards are slowly becoming the next unintended acceleration. Last week, GM and Chrysler both issued recalls that related to fire hazards and this week, BMW joins the trend.
BMW’s recall extends to 38,000 U.S.-based 1 Series models between the 2008 and 2011 model years. The recall relates to a safety problem that could cause a fire in the event of a crash. The NHTSA said of the problem: “In a crash of sufficient severity, deployment of the front pretensioner and load-limiter occurs. The insulation around the pretensioner could ignite.”

I don’t think there was nary a person on Earth–car fan or not–that looked at the Vision EfficientDynamics concept at Frankfurt and didn’t wish with all their being that BMW would actually produce it. They might have wished for a shorter, more simple name (I know I did), but who wouldn’t love to see this on the road?

Jeff Koons aspired to create a BMW that offered a dynamic appearance even when it’s standing still, and it’s all but impossible to argue that he failed. Koons’ BMW M3 GT2 definitely offers the impression that it’s moving, possibly at the speed of light, even when it’s motionless on top of a stage.
The 17th BMW Art Car was unveiled yesterday at the Centre Pompidou in Paris in front of 300 VIP guests. It is on display all day today for visitors to behold free of charge. After that, it’s headed to the 24 Hours of Le Mans on June 12 and 13.

It’s not exactly 10,382 mpg, but it’s a car that you could valet park with confidence at any restaurant in the country. The 2010 BMW 320d EfficientDynamics recently completed a trip from the U.K. to Munich and on back again without ever stopping for fuel along the way. That’s 1,013 miles traveled on just one tank of gas. The 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbo diesel helped to deliver numbers that never dipped below 54 mpg and averaged 57 mpg combined.

The 2011 BMW X3 crossover is getting prepared for an official debut later this year. We’ll see it in all its glory at the Paris Motor Show, but we now have an official sneak peak. BMW released a few teaser images on its website for the Netherlands today, and needless to stay, the pictures didn’t stay put for long.
There’s nothing too revealing here, but we can make out the newly sweeping curves of the hood and what looks to be a curvier rear end. When it hits, the BMW is expected to get 2.0-liter twin-turbo diesel and 3.0-liter straight six options. [via WCF]
