If a new report out of Germany is to be believed, Bugatti may soon be dropping the legendary Veyron from its line and focusing on a more profitable vehicle: an ultra-premium sedan. German site Der Spiegal reports that Bugatti is under some pressure from VW to turn a profit, and VW plans to shift focus from the completely impractical Veyron to a less-impractical but probably-still-outrageous sedan modeled after the 16C Galibier. The sedan will be built on the Audi A8′s platform. Word is the Veyron will be phased out by 2014.

The ongoing saga of the Bugatti 16C Galibier continues. Introduced last summer as a potential production model, Bugatti still hasn’t committed to producing it. But given the amount of time the company has spent releasing new pictures and video of it, and affirmative hints that have been floating around, we’ll be surprised if the super-sedan doesn’t get a full green light.
The 16C Galibier is the best way we’ve seen to transport you and three buddies to the airport in record time. The saloon features the Veyron’s 8.0-liter W16 engine outfitted with two superchargers, providing the driver’s foot access to 217 mph worth of speed.

Boy, we wish Bugatti would just come out and confirm when we’re going to see the 16C Galibier hit production already. Officially, the commanding sedan is one of several designs being considered for production. But while those other designs remain a mystery, the 16C Galibier is getting plenty of press and public attention.

It’s always exciting when a car goes from visually stunning concept to production model. That’s never more true than when the car in question is a Bugatti powered by the Veyron’s 8-liter, 16-cylinder engine. While Bugatti has stopped short of confirming that the powerful 16 C Galibier four-door will be an official production model, it released some press material today stating it is shopping the concept with potential consumers and opinion makers in LA, likely in anticipation of an appearance at the LA Auto Show.

Dubbed “the most exclusive, elegant and powerful four door automobile in the world”, the Bugatti Galibier doesn’t look like it will disappoint on any account. The concept was quietly unveiled at Bugatti’s headquarters in Molsheim over the weekend and is one of several concepts that the company is looking at for the future of its flagship. While we look forward to seeing the others, we can’t help but be rooting for the Galibier. With an 8-liter 16 cylinder subject to two-stage supercharging sitting under the hood, dark blue carbon fiber body work with polished aluminum wings and doors, new suspension system keeping things tight and agile, and a four-wheel-drive system with ceramic braking, the Galibier has all the makings of a top-end Bugatti. Bugatti hasn’t yet released power figures and has not made it clear if the Galibier will be part of Frankfurt, though we certainly hope to see more soon. [via egmCarTech]
