Surprise, Surprise: Halfpipes, Cars and PR Jockeys Don’t Mix
By Chris Weiss
There’s no reason any one in the history of drivers has ever really needed to drive a car up and down a halfpipe. Ever. Regardless, Audi thought a stunt like this would be a great way of demonstrating the agility of its A1 hatchback. What better way to show what a quick, sporty ride the A1 offers than by taking it up terrain designed for a skateboard?
As you can see, the stunt didn’t work out so good in the end. Audi did actually get a few incident-free days of halfpipe driving in Brussels before one of its drivers got his angles all fouled up and flipped the car over when attempting another halfpipe maneuver. That’s what you get for such a contrived, unnecessary PR move.
If you’re left craving some video of this embarrassment, take a look at Volvo’s recent PR flop for an equally embarrassing little episode. [via Jalopnik]
