Chrysler 300C Say Its Not So: Fiat to Develop a Maserati Based on Chrysler 300C

‘The Chrysler 300C is a fine-looking automobile. But it ain’t no Maserati. This makes Fiat’s rumored decision to use the Chrysler as the base for its next Maserati Quattroporte a sharp shot to the proverbial nads. According to reports circulating the auto blogosphere, Fiat will be using its Carrozzeria Bertone factory to begin production of two new models based on Chryslers beginning in 2011. The first is a replacement for the Lancia Thesis. We can live with that. It’s the second Chrysler-based Maserati that is pure sacrilege. Hopefully, between now and 2011, Fiat will clear its head and scratch these plans. We’ll find out more next week when the company unveils its five-year plan. Perhaps the rumors will disappear into the night. [via RideLust]

This would be the biggest mistake in automotive history. The current Maserati platform is working well, thank you very much. What could Maserati gain by building the next generation QT on a Chrysler 300 platform? The 300 is a nice car, yes, but to pair it with a Maserati? Come guys. Don't revert back to your "fix-it0again-tony" days. Chris, you are right. Perhaps between now and their press conference, they will have regained control of their senses.

No you are completely wrong fortunately. It is not the next generation of "Quattroporte" to (probably) share the 300C base, BUT a smaller model set to be in the segment of Bmw 7/ Mercedes E Klasse and Audi A8. Not the Quattroporte right? Hopefully this is just a rumor.

This would not be the first time Chrysler and Maserati teamed up.

all this means is that Chrysler had better technology in certain aspects of the 300C than what maserati was working with. its still gonna be a maserati.
