Rumors Leak On Entry Level Porsche

Oct 06, 2009 - By Chris Weiss

Porsche Boxster

Word from Germany is that Porsche is working in cooperation Volkswagen on an entry-level Porsche that will carry a far lighter price tag than the Boxster (app. $77, 743). The report hails from German automotive publication Automobilwoche and quotes Porsche head of development Wolfgang Duerheimer. Working with Volkswagen will reportedly allow the struggling Porsche to cut costs enough to offer an entry level model. No additional vehicle details were released with word of the “poor man’s Porsche”, but it certainly brings mixed emotions. At first blush, a Porsche for the rest of us is an exciting prospect, but upon further thought, the cheapening of such an icon could be quite a shameful decision. We’ll have to wait it out and see what the final product looks like (if anything). [Drive via AutoBlog]
