SLRs Production of SLR Stirling Moss Represents the End of the Mercedes/McLaren Era

It’s one of the greatest break-ups of our generation: after a torrid five-year affair that bore five beautiful, exuberant children, Mercedes and McLaren are officially going their separate ways. SLR Stirling Moss models are currently under production, and once done at year end, Mercedes and McLaren will be left to their own devices in the market.

Since 2004, the Mercedes/McLaren team-up has delivered two SLR coupes, two roadsters and now the 75-example Stirling Moss. 2,000 SLRs were made altogether.

They couldn’t have picked a better place to leave of. Named after a British racing legend, the breathtaking Stirling Moss shaves both windshield and roof off, providing a profile that you won’t soon forget. Underneath the hood, an ominous 650 hp supercharged V8 is poised to tear from 0 to 62 in just 3.5 seconds. It’s a fitting celebration for a productive partnership–we’re full but left wanting more. Luckily, we won’t be left longing with the SLS AMG and MP4-12C not far down the road. [via WCF]
