Porsche Unveils the 2011 911 GT2 RS (Officially)
May 12, 2010 - By Chris Weiss
You know you’re getting close to a big reveal, when information starts leaking about a car from the manufacturer’s own preview event. That’s what happened with the 2011 911 GT2 RS, and Porsche followed up with the official unveiling.
Specs are pretty similar, though not identical, to what was leaked yesterday. The new GT2 RS will get nearly 100 hp over the outgoing version, wrangling 620 horses out of its twin-turbocharged 3.6-liter flat six. The weight loss is a little less than rumored at 154 lbs, a fact that may lead to the slightly-slower-than-expected sprint to 60 mph (3.6 seconds). Top speed is 205 mph.
Where the GT2 RS lives up to its hype is in its Nurburgring time: 7:18, which beats both the Nissan GTR and the Corvette ZR1 around the track. Porsche didn’t waste any time calling it the “fastest and most powerful road-going sports car ever built in the history of Porsche.”
The price is a little cheaper than rumored at $245,000 and there will be 500, not 300, units built. [via egmCarTech]
