Porsche Declines Mini’s Race Offer

We believe in follow-ups, no matter how predictable and anticlimactic they may be. So, it’s with no surprise or enthusiasm that we report that Porsche has given the thumbs down to Mini on the idea of a Cooper S/911 Carrera S race. Porsche did so with admirable finesse, inviting Mini to enter  Le Mans, Daytona or any other sanctioned race. We think Mini will respond with a similar decline.

Porsche even explained a little further, not that they really had to. “But as you also know, Porsche doesn’t race for fame, stunts or publicity. We race to challenge ourselves; we race to push sports car technology; we race to translate every win on the track to our cars on the road,” a note from North American president and CEO Detlev Von Platen reads.

That doesn’t have to stop you from printing out the retro-looking challenge poster and posting it with other car memorabilia. It’ll still look nice even if the race never happened. Most regular folks won’t know the difference anyway. [via MotorAuthority]
