Porche Moves One Step Closer to Green-Lighting 918 Spider Hybrid

The Porsche 918 Spider hybrid concept was quite possibly the biggest show-stopper at a Geneva Motor Show filled with new, exotic automobiles. The last we heard, influential voices in Stuttgart were quite enthused about a possible production version and were trying to line up possible buyers before officially giving it the go-ahead.
Today, Bloomberg reports that those buyers are neatly in line. Porsche is likely to approve the hybrid for production once it reaches 1,000 buyers, and according to today’s news, it’s already reached nearly 900.
The 918 Spider stands to be arguably the most exciting Porsche release in years. In addition to the 718-hp hybrid powertrain, the car (in its concept form, at least) brings a fresh, super-sporty look to a line that is known for looking pretty homogenous from model to model and year to year. Hopefully, that light will be shining green in the coming weeks. [via Bloomberg]
