Pagani came out with a statement today to help to clarify rumors and ruminations of what will be under the hood of its upcoming C9. The engine WILL be an AMG V12, but it WON’T be shared with or derived from any Mercedes vehicles.

Here’s what Pagani/AMG offered: “The engine of the Pagani C9 is not a derivative of the AMG V12 engine developed for the SL65 Black Series, nor is the AMG V12 engine in the SL65 Black Series derived from the engine AMG is currently developing for the Pagani C9. The cars are very different in their character and conception and the engine will reflect this in its technical characteristics and behavior. The engine in the Pagani C9 has been developed specifically for that application by Mercedes-AMG GmbH.”

Pagani spent some time telling us what the engine isn’t, but outside of detailing that it is an AMG V12 didn’t give us much on what it is. But rumors indicate a 6.0-liter V12 worth 700 horses and 738 lb-ft. As usual, we can’t wait to find out more about the C9. [via Inside Line]
