Obama Administration Gives the Thumbs Up to Toyota’s Recall Plan
By Chris Weiss
It’s been a rocky road, but it looks like Toyota has received some important approval in its recall struggle. The Obama administration has approved Toyota’s recall plan after the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration gave it a thorough review. The approval isn’t necessary for Toyota to proceed, but it should help to provide a bit of public confidence in Toyota’s plans.
Toyota announced yesterday that its dealers will begin fixing the faulty accelerator pedals at the heart of its latest recall. The company also began shipping repair parts.
Toyota will reconvene production of the eight affected models next Monday.
While the NHTSA is content with Toyota’s remedy, the agency is looking closely at CTS Corp., the manufacturer of the faulty pedals, to determine if the company acted properly in making the public aware of the issue in a timely manner. [Automotive News via egmCarTech]
