Next SSC Ultimate Aero Will Debut August 8

Bugatti better relish its newly captured World’s Fastest Production Car Title, because SSC is breathing down its back, and it’s breathing heavy. Shortly following Bugatti’s record early this month, SSC indicated that it had a new supercar coming and hinted that it planned to challenge the record. That car is the new Ultimate Aero, which will debut in just a few weeks on August 8 at Boeing’s Museum of Flight in Seattle, WA.
The first Ultimate Aero set a production car world speed record of 256 mph back in 2007, and it wasn’t until just this month that the record was broken. Bugatti’s 1,200-hp Veyron Super Sport blew SSC’s title away with a 268 mph run.
The original record-setting Ultimate Aero featured a V8 block engine that churned out nearly 1,200 horses and 1,100 lb-ft (the output has since been upgraded to 1,387 hp and 1,112 lb-ft). It’s not known what the new Ultimate Aero will be powered by, but if it’s going to beat the Bugatti, it will need to step it up a notch. We’ll see on August 8. [via WCF]
