2010 Mazda MX 5 Miata Next Mazda MX 5 Miata To Get 50mpg

According to a report on Inside Line, the Mazda MX-5 coming in 2011 will get a host of updates that promise to make it more efficient and nimble than ever. First off, the tiny two-seater will go on a diet–the smaller profile will cut weight down to around 2,200 lbs. Combine the lighter weight with Mazda’s Tokyo-debuted SKY-G engine and expectations for fuel economy are in the 50mpg range and are even being speculated as high as 70. The SKY-G is a naturally aspirated 1.3-liter four-cylinder that puts out 150 horses.

Helping to achieve the efficiency numbers, the new MX-5 is also expected to feature new technologies like regenerative braking and i-stop idling system. [via egmCarTech]
