In a new chapter of the ongoing accelerator issue that has plagued certain Toyota vehicles, the automaker has issued yet another large recall involving 2.3 million vehicles. The new, voluntary recall is independent of last year’s recall that affected close to 4 million vehicles.

Like the last recall, the new recall relates to sticking gas pedals. The pedals are unaffected by the floor mats and stick on their own. According to Toyota, worn gas pedals are at risk of getting stuck in a partially depressed position and causing unintended acceleration.

Vehicles affected include the 2009-2010 Toyota Rav4, Corolla and Matrix, 2005-2010 Avalon, 2008-2010 Camry, 2010 Highlander, 2007-2010 Tundra and 2008-2010 Sequoia. Owners will be notified once Toyota has come up with a fix and can continue to drive their vehicles, according to a company spokesman.

Last week, it was reported that Toyota will be installing a new brake override system in new Lexus and Toyota models beginning this year. The new system will be a back-up designed to prevent unintended acceleration. [via CNN Money]

My mom had a Toyota Corolla 2003. She crashed it last week when it started accelerating and she had no choice but to hit something to stop. Her car is not included in this recall and this makes me believe there are PLENTY of other dangerous toyotas that will remain on the road due to the company's lack of concern for human life. It is so sad because so many deaths could have been prevented if they had made the right decision from the beginning.
