New El Camino Coming to the U.S. ?

Don’t call it a comeback. Because, really, the El Camino and greater pickup car genre never left…our hearts. We’ve been yearning for a new pickup car–a legit, old school version, not the short, little Subaru Baja–pretty much since the Camino went out of production back in the 1980s. And yet, we get nothing but scoffs from nations around the world that have their pick of cars with beds.
Well, according to Jalopnik, GM is floating the idea of a U.S.-market pickup. The car would likely be a retooled, Chevy-branded version of one of its international Utes like the Holden Commodore Ute and could revive the ‘El Camino’ name, according to Jalopnik’s report.
The new Camino is far from official, but if GM goes with it, it will likely debut in 2014. [via Jalopnik]
