MINI Relentless in Porsche Race

I thought the whole MINI Cooper S-Porsche 911 Carrera S was over last week. It was a fun aside; MINI got some face time with the public over it and it ended like you knew it would: in a decline by Porsche. It seems that MINI is intent on milking this one for all its worth, and it’s doing a helluva a job.

After Porsche declined the original invitation, MINI hired a pilot to fly over Porsche’s Atlanta offices with a sign that said: “Dear Porsche, Bring It! Love, Mini.” Around the same time, MINI president Jim McDowell went on camera with a black, “No One Likes a No-Show” T and tried to shame Porsche into it. Responding to Porsche’s contention that it races for more than fame, McDowell offered up novelties like two Justin Bieber tickets and a lifetime subscription to the Salami of the Month Club.

Now, MINI is back with a Rocky IV-inspired video. They really aren’t giving up.

Ordinarily I would blast a company for whoring itself out to the media in a situation like this, but this campaign has actually proven to be a lot of fun. It doesn’t make me anymore excited about the Cooper S, but it’s definitely a good time. [via Jalopnik]

Come on, Porsche. Even non-car fans want this to happen. It would be the car story of the summer, and a much needed distraction from the bad news of the world. Even Porsche fans are behind this: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Lets-go-to-Road-Atl…

Everyone's on board but Porsche. What's the worst that could happen?
