Mazda to Roll Out New 2012 RX-7 in Place of RX-8
By Chris WeissAccording to a report on Inside Line, Mazda is planning to go a little more conservative on its next-generation sports coupe. The word is that the automaker plans to revive the RX-7, aiming to make a modest, affordable car rather than an all-out performer.
Instead of pumping the full 300/350 horses out of the 1600cc Renesis 16X rotary engine under the new RX-7′s hood, Mazda will opt to keep output down in the 200 to 250 hp range while holding the price under $30K, reportedly around $25,000.
The car will be based on the original RX-7, which was sold in the States between ’79 and ’85.
We could see the 2012 RX-7 in 2011, and it’s likely that the new Mazda sports car will replace the RX-8. [via Inside Line]
