Mazda Miata MX-5 Gets Matted Out
By Chris Weiss
It seems like everyone is offering a matte black special edition these, so much so that it’s not really all that special anymore. Especially not when the matte black paint is stroked onto a Mazda Miata. Ordinarily I enjoy the touch of matte, but on the Mazda’s short, rounded body, it just looks awkward–like if that model was 40 lbs. heavier and still trying to fit into that same dress. Not that the Miata’s heavy, it’s just an awkward pairing.
The special edition was designed in honor of the MX-5′s 20th birthday in France–an odd car for an odd occasion. Called the Black & Matte, the roadster was unveiled at the Salon du Cabriolet, CoupĂ© & SUV. It was developed in conjunction with France design house LK and supposedly features rhinestones, gems and crystals, but we ain’t seeing them. Maybe they’re all inside. Or on the model’s arm and dress (and swords?).
We’ve got more pictures in the gallery below, and given our distaste for this one, we’ve focused as much attention as we could on the Parisian hotty. [via Carscoop]
