Kiyora 2 Mazda Gets Green With Kiyora Concept and New Engines

First seen in Paris last year, Mazda’s Kiyora concept car is a distinctive little ball of efficiency that leaves an indelible impression on viewers. Between the wry smile of its front end and its angled, tear-drop shaped doors one can’t help but be a little taken aback by the unique design. The compact concept features a 1.3 liter direct-injection SKY engine that provides 75 mpg under Japan’s 10 to 15 mode test cycle. The vehicle also features Mazda’s SKY-Drive high-efficiency six-speed automatic transmission and is 220 lbs lighter than any other vehicle in Mazda’s line-up. Mazda will be showing the Kiyora at the Tokyo Motor Show in October. Additionally, Mazda will also be showing off the new SKY-G direct injection gas engine and SKY-D clean diesel engine, which it expects will help stimulate a 30% company-wide efficiency increase between 2008 and 2015.
