Lotus Gives the Details of Evora 414 E Hybrid Concept
By Chris Weiss
How does 408 hp and a range of 300 miles strike you? Pretty nice, we think. Lotus has released the details on the Evora 414E Hybrid concept to appear next week in Geneva. Unfortunately, they left us with only a teaser picture, but we’ll see it for reals soon enough.
The 414E features two rear-mounted 204 hp electric motors and a 1.2-liter three-cylinder engine worth 47 hp. The engine may seem underpowered, but that’s because it’s not positioned to spin the axles, but instead powers the 17 kWh lithium polymer battery pack, providing the juice needed to keep the motors active. The car features a single-speed transmission layout, but Lotus includes a simulated seven-speed paddle-shift transmission to keep drivers connected.
The Evora 414E is capable of 35 miles of electric-only driving. After that the engine kicks in to provide range extension over 300 miles. It hits 60 mph in under 4 seconds. Not a bad combination of performance.
Other notable aspects of the hybrid include HALOsonic Internal and External Electronic Sound Synthesis technologies from Lotus and Harman International that simulates noise to protect pedestrians outside and contour sound inside, and the glass roof and engine cover seen above.
We’ll definitely be looking for this one next week. [via AutoBlog]
