Hybrid Nano Could Be In Tata’s Future
By Chris WeissWith a price tag around $2,000, the Tata Nano is the world’s cheapest car. In fact, here in the States, many people ride scooters and bicycles that cost more than the Indian wonder-car. While the car has made great headway in providing the conveniences of an automobile to low-income consumers that could not otherwise afford one, there has been much criticism that such a widely available, inexpensive car would put more of a burden on an already suffering environment– despite the fact that the tiny car can deliver up to 50 mpg.
Well, perhaps the misguided critics can take a step back now that Tata is considering a hybrid Nano. Tata chairman Ratan Tata told a South Korean newspaper that the carmaker is considering a hybrid version. No further details were given, but hybrid technology could help the Nano to increase its lofty efficiency numbers and quell outside criticism. [via egmCarTech]
