Hybrid Corvette Coming?

According to reports, Tom Stephens, GM vice chairman of global product development, has given the hypothetical nod to a hybrid Corvette. Before you get too excited/exasperated, there’s one big caveat: GM would have to be forced into it by the new CAFE efficiency standards. If it comes down to the decision of hybrid Corvette or no Corvette at all, it appears that GM would save their icon by mixing in some electric power.  Before that last alternative, GM has other plans to increase the Corvette’s efficiency including cutting weight, adding low rolling resistance tires, direct injection, variable valve timing and cylinder deactivation. So, for now, the hybrid ‘Vette remains but a thoughtful approach to a distant problem. [via AutoBlog]
