Honda’s Segway-like U3-X Personal Mobility Device Unveiled
By Alex Ion
Announced yesterday, apparently Honda has been secretly working on a personal mobility device dubbed U3-X. Designed to be small, safe and unobtrusive, the high tech unicycle looks sleek, but a little precarious and uncomfortable to ride. Speaking of riding it, the Segway-like commuter moves in any direction by simply shifting body weight on a side or another by using an omni-directional driving wheel system. Comprised of many tiny motor-controlled wheels, the 22 pound device is powered from a lithium-ion battery and runs on a full charge for an hour. Intended as an appealing concept for the elderly, Honda U3-X is rumored to be best suited to those over 5ft tall who can keep balance. We’ll be honest– we’ll need to ride on in person to ever give it our endorsement… [via BusinessWire]
