In an effort to calm public anxiety (and boost the bottom line), GM is preparing to install brake override software into its entire global fleet of cars with automatic transmissions and electronic throttle control. The roll-out will be completed by the end of 2012.

The “enhanced smart pedal” technology will decrease power to the engine when both the accelerator and brake are pressed at the same time.

GM may not have had the unintended acceleration problems that have bogged down Toyota, but it is taking the precautionary measure to “enhance customer confidence”. [via Inside Line]
