GM Recalls 40,000 Corvettes for Steering Issues
By Chris Weiss
GM is recalling a total of 40,028 Corvettes manufactured between March of 2004 and January of 2006 for issues with the steering column. Corvette models with tilt and a telescoping steering column can experience a signal disruption that could result in one of the brakes being applied. When the steering column is moved repeatedly, the resulting signal interruption can cause a message of “Service Active Handling System.” At this time one or more of the brakes may automatically apply, an action that can cause the car to veer and lead to a possible crash.
The recall was officially set to start last Friday, according to the NHTSA. Dealers will repair the cars for free. Corvette owners with questions can contact Chevrolet at 800-630-2438. [via Inside Line]
