GM Quashes Mid-Engine Corvette Rumors
By Chris Weiss
As recently as last week, mid-engined Corvette rumors seemed to be gaining steam. But today, they ran into a brick wall.
Autoweek reports that GM has put the kibosh on the rumors. The article quotes VP of global vehicle engineering Karl-Friedrich Stracke as saying: “I don’t know who made this public. I think it is wrong.”
The publication clarified with a GM spokesman who said it more clearly: ““The rumors and speculation about the Corvette are just that. There is no mid-engine in the plans.”
The report also indicates that a V6 engine and wet dual-clutch transmission are out as well. Stracke did remain open to the possibility of a hybrid powertrain, however.
So whether you shunned the idea of a mid-engined Corvette or welcomed it with open arms, it looks like we won’t be seeing one. [via Autoweek]
