GM Promises to Pay Back the Government Before June
By Chris Weiss
You know what I’m getting pretty sick of? GM’s promises of paying back federal money at such and such a time. Frankly, until you say “The check is in the mail.” get off the podium and stop reminding us of that money. Please.
Back in December, GM promised to pay back loans to the U.S. and Canada by June. Yesterday, Ed Whitacre took the stage at the Rotary Club in San Antonio and said that the automaker will pay back the $8 billion or so worth of loans before June.
You know what’s better than beating your self-declared payback date? Not borrowing billions of dollars to cover up shoddy management in the first place.
When it comes to money–especially with the word billion attached–we’ll believe it when we see it, thank you. [Reuters via egmCarTech]
