Chevy Volt GM Investing $230 Million in Flint, Michigan Plants

In some rare good news for Michigan auto workers, GM plans to invest $230 million into four Flint, Michigan factories to work on parts for the Chevy Cruze and Volt EV. According to GM, the investment is the equivalent of more than 500 jobs and will be put into its Flint Engine South, Flint Metal Center, Flint Tool & Die, and Grand Blanc Weld Tool Center. The money will go toward such activitiees as upgrading manufacturing operations for building engine generators for the Volt and engines for the Cruze, refurbishment of press lines for producing sheet metal stampings for the Volt and building robotic weld tool cells to assemble the Volt body at the Volt plant. The fuel-efficient, four-cylinder Cruze will hit the market next spring, while the Volt is expected to begin production in late 2010. [via AutoBlog]
