Ford to Green Up the 2011 Explorer With EcoBoost

2010 Ford Explorer

We just saw the 2011 Ford Edge yesterday in Chicago, and one of the engine options that Ford will eventually offer on it is a 2.0-liter four-cylinder EcoBoost. At the unveil, Ford also confirmed that it plans to offer the same EcoBoost engine in the 2011 Explorer.

In addition to the EcoBoost, Ford will be using lightweight materials, unitized construction and a six-speed transmission to deliver a 25 percent boost in fuel economy. That beats out the Edge’s 15 percent boost.

Ford won’t go far for Explorer production; it will be manufacturing the SUV in a Chicago plant, as announced last month. [via egmCarTech]
