Ford Takes In-Vehicle Technology to a Stupid Level
By Chris Weiss
Up until now much of the technological advancements we’ve seen from Ford, such as the Sync and MyFord systems, have been cool and useful, though arguably distracting and unnecessary. In a new piece of technology that Ford is working on, the Blue Oval takes unnecessary to a new, illogical level. A new app the company is testing out on the 2011 Ford Fiesta is capable of giving the driver information about whether the car is happy or sad. No, really, it does.
The app uses information from the on-board computer and various vehicle sensors to personify the car and let you know its mood. As if you don’t have enough to worry about trying to keep the wife (or husband) and kids happy, now you may have to worry about how you’re car is feeling. No word yet on whether the app will support drawn-out conversations in which you both express your feelings.
As to what might make a car happy vs. sad, it’s pretty similar to what would make a driver happy or sad a car “zipping along an open road or negotiating tight curves” would be happy, while a car “at zero mph with the wipers on” would be sad.
Wow, this is just really stupid. There’s no other way to say it. [via InsideLine]
