Chrysler Ends Lifetime Powertrain Warranty

Chrysler Warranty

Just two years ago, Chrysler shook up the automotive market by revamping its warranty program to extend the Lifetime Powertrain Warranty to most Chrysler, Jeep and Dodge vehicles. I can even hear the commercials with some gruff voice mentioning the “Lifetime Powertrain Warranty” sounding off in the back of my conscience. Well, Chrysler has decided to officially unshake the market by discontinuing the warranty. Citing discussions with their dealerships that indicated that new customers would prefer a shorter, transferable warranty over the lifetime warranty,  Chrysler will be offering a 5-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty that is fully transferable to new owners. This warranty will start at the beginning of the 2010 model year. The new warranty also covers SRT and Viper models that weren’t a part of the lifetime warranty. Only the diesel Dodge Ram and Sprinter Van were left out of the new program. [via Ride Lust]
