2010 Chevy Equinox Chevy Offers Wi Fi in Seven New Vehicles

Chevy is offering built-in Wi Fi in seven models: Avalanche, Equinox, Express, Silverado, Suburban, Tahoe and Traverse. Chevrolet Wi Fi by Autonet Mobile will operate via 3G, creating a Wi Fi hot spot inside the car. Speeds will be up to 1.5 Mbps, allowing for bandwidth-intensive applications like streaming video.

The Wi Fi hot spot extends to a 150-foot radius around the car, so if you’re driving one of these new Chevies, expect to see traffic driving a little closer than usual trying to poach your signal. Chevy foresees Wi Fi as being useful to road trippers and business people, but we’re pretty sure anyone with a laptop will dig in-car Wi Fi.

In related good news, Pandora is reportedly planning on offering its popular, user-centric radio service in vehicles.

The Chevy system will retail for $399 and cost $29/month for service. It’s available at a discounted $199 (plus 2-year contract) until year-end. [via LeftLaneNews]
