Chevy announced today that the Camaro has been a rousing success, beating out the Mustang in its first year by nearly 20,000 models sold. According to GM, the car was the best-selling sports car in the United States during its first official year on the market (May 2009 to May 2010), selling a total of nearly 100,000 units. Specifically, 99,872 Camaros rolled out of dealers during the year.

“It’s remarkable how quickly consumers connected with the new Camaro, and pushed it to the top of the segment,” John Fitzpatrick, Camaro marketing manager, said in a press release, “especially considering our key competitors offer both coupe and convertible models.

Chevy went on to say that there has been a lot of success with traditional Chevy customers, new customers and international customers alike.
