By Chris Weiss
The idea of car-sharing is pretty radical to many of us who rely on a car for the daily commute. Recently, CEO Scott Griffith recently got candid with Fortune Magazine on some numbers for Zipcar, the membership-based car-sharing program available in major cities and universities around the U.S. The numbers show that while it’s not for everyone, car-sharing is a booming business with plenty of room for company growth.
Currently, Zipcar has 6,500 cars on the road worldwide and 325,000 members– 50 members per car. Griffith estimates that the company will need to get membership up to around one million before it hits its billion-dollar goal. Drivers who’ve made the decision to ditch their cars and switch over to car-sharing have saved an average of $600 per month, according to the article.
