Brake Override System Will Make Its Way Into Toyota/Lexus Line
Jan 12, 2010 - By Chris Weiss
Finally, we have what appears to be a definitive solution to the ongoing Toyota/Lexus accelerator issue. The company has begun installing a brake override system into its vehicles, which will automatically idle the engine should the internal computer detect that the driver is attempting to brake and the car isn’t slowing. Presumably, this will take care of the unintended acceleration issues that have hampered the company and caused the recall of nearly 4 million vehicles.
The new system will first be implemented in the Toyota Camry and Lexus ES 350 and should find its way into all Toyota and Lexus models by year end. Toyota anticipates that the new system will take care of the problem.
Current owners of affected vehicles will still have to go through the recall accelerator pedal replacement. [via Motor Authority]
