BMW To Debut Concept ActiveE At Detroit Auto Show
Dec 18, 2009 - By Chris WeissIf you couldn’t tell from the out of place capital E, the ActiveE is a new electric concept from BMW that has been announced for world debut in Detroit. The concept is based on the 1 Series Coupe and uses a purpose-built electric motor worth 170 hp and 184 lb-ft. The brain behind the brawn is a lithium-ion battery pack developed jointly with SB LiMotiv. The batteries deliver a 100-mile range and take about 4 1/2 hours of charging time.
Performance has been provided as 9 seconds for the dash to 60 and a 90 mph top speed.
The ActiveE boasts a variety of interesting features like smartphone syncing for checking the charge status and amount of range left in the batteries–similar to what Chevy is working on with its Volt iPhone/Blackberry apps.
More than just a pretty showgirl, the ActiveE is part of BMW’s master plan to get an electric to market within the first half of the decade. [via Inside Line]

BMW and the "E" is very impressive! This vehicle will make a significant impact on the traditional higher end BMW market. This is a fantastic development and will provide the conscientious driver with greater choice in the hybrid and alternative fuel market. These pictures also feature the trademark look of the BMW.. Well done BMW the master plan is progressing as planned. I am looking forward to viewing next release of the BMW hybrid and electric vehicles !
