In addition to texting, eating, combing hair and taking a quick nap, the future holds one more thing that people shouldn’t do while driving but will undoubtedly be doing anyway: downloading smartphone-like apps. Audi’s sales and marketing boss Peter Schwarzenbauer recently said that the German luxury company plans to add a computer-style dashboard to its vehicles that will support app downloading. It plans to unroll this new in-vehicle technology by 2020. Yes, in the future, the roads will be even scarier.

So what kind of apps are so essential that you need to do them in the middle of rush-hour traffic? We were thinking music and not much else, but Audi also mentioned the possibility of being able to download vehicle options like heated seats. That’s pretty damn cool, but since they’d have to install all the hardware standard, wouldn’t it just end up costing the consumer or Audi money for those that don’t want the heated seats? Luckily, they’ve got 10 years to figure that and other pressing questions out. [via egmCarTech]
