All-Electric Fiat 500 BEV On Display in Detroit
By Chris Weiss
As part of Chrysler’s expanded, new look, the automaker has included a Fiat 500 BEV as part of its showcase in Detroit. The tiny hatch features a full electric powertrain crafted in conjunction with Chrysler’s former ENVI group, but no specifics were provided on the exact configuration powering the wheels.
It’s not known whether the BEV version of the 500 will enter production, but the standard Fiat 500 is scheduled to debut in the U.S. later this year. It will feature a 1.4-liter Multiair engine and a turbo version will follow a year later. [via egmCarTech and LeftLaneNews]

Detroit has a chance to show the nation and the world that they’re listening to the cries for greater fuel efficiency! The Electric Fiat 500, the Toyota FT-CH, and the Honda CR-Z hybrid are all great eco-friendly cars of the sort Americans are now demanding: let’s hope for more like them as the Auto Show continues.
