Alfa Romeo May Bring Back the Spider
By Chris Weiss
Last week, we saw a teaser of the Pininfarina Spider concept, one of three Alfa Romeo concepts that will celebrate 100 years of Alfa at the Geneva Motor Show. A report in Autocar indicates that the new Spider may be less celebratory and more mandatory. It may be the beginning of a new production Spider designed to help Alfa Romeo save its existence. According to the report, the three Geneva concepts are being used as a means of displaying the potential future of the Alfa brand.
Before the Spider or any other new Alfa models are approved, the brand will be under close scrutiny by Fiat and Sergio Marchionne. Marchionne placed the brand on probation and a review will decide its future in April. It could make the Giuletta the last new Alfa model ever–not great news for Alfa fans.
It’s expected that the new Spider would be based on Fiat’s C-Evo platform and would feature a turbocharged, four-cylinder Multiair engine options. [Autocar via WCF]
