2011 Ford Explorer Teased
By Chris Weiss
The picture above is a little glimpse of the upcoming 2011 Ford Explorer tucked away under chief engineer Jim Holland’s armpit and smiley mug. The new Explorer will mark a shift from body-on-truck construction to car-based crossover construction and will get a few visual cues from the Land Rover range, including the clamshell hood.
According to Holland, despite the shift to a Taurus platform, the Explorer won’t lose its SUV stock. He said in an interview with the Detroit Free Press: “When you see it, you know it’s a Ford, you will know it is an SUV, and you will know it’s a very modern interpretation of our Explorer.”
The Explorer will feature a 2.0-liter and 3.5-liter Ecoboost engine options. The 2.0-liter four cylinder will deliver best in class fuel economy and V6 performance, according to Ford. It’ll be unveiled later this year. [Freep via WCF]
